What is PSD2?
‘PSD2’ is the second phase of the Payment Services Directive. It is a European law that makes electronic payments when shopping online more secure. Phase one came into effect from 13th January 2018. PSD2 legislation will apply from 1st January 2021.
Important Update to the Way You Pay Online
From January 2021, a new security measure will come into effect for all online shopping payments in the EU. This update is to help keep you safe when shopping online. Following this update, you will be prompted with an additional step when you enter your card details online before your order at Kilkenny can be processed. We’ve explained everything you need to know below.
What does this mean for you?
From 1st January 2021, when you shop online at Kilkenny using a debit or credit card, you may be asked to verify your identity. This is simply an additional security measure to ensure your online payment is safe and to protect your bank account from fraudulent activity. You may be asked to verify your identity using two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication is a security process meaning you will need to verify your identity in two ways, for example via a secure pin number.
How will it affect me when shopping online at Kilkenny Shop?
The good news is your online experience at Kilkenny Shop will remain super easy to use. You will continue to browse and add items to your cart as normal. The PSD2 update simply means that when you enter your card details at the checkout, you will be prompted to verify your identity as an additional security step. This will be done via a one-time security pin code sent directly to you by text message or through your mobile banking app. Once you receive your one-time secure pin code, simply enter the code when prompted to complete your online payment with Kilkenny Shop.
How do I set up Two Factor Authentication?
If two factor authentication is not already set up on your bank account, you will need to contact your bank to put this in place. Your bank will be in touch with communications on how to set this up.
